As Mother’s Day approaches, I am reminded of something my mother would say to me.
She would smile when I asked her what she would like for her celebratory day and say, every day is Mother’s day. I never understood her comment and would answer her with a, don’t be silly, of course there must be something you would appreciate.
Now I realise what she meant for as a mother there is no one day that can possibly encapsulate the joy and nor is there one day that equally expresses the trials of being a mother. Motherhood is a unique and priviledged club and once joined there is no rescinding of the membership.
But, that does not mean as mothers we don’t deserve some serious attention.
Nordstrom have asked me for Mother’s Day suggestions; what I would like to give and what I would love to receive. My answer is always the same; those delicious treats that I never have the time nor the inclination to buy for myself. Scrolling through their beauty department is like entering a seductive haven, an imaginery spa where all to the touch is feminine and glamorous.
I have restricted myself to a beauty box full of luxurious gifts. As a mother ( or for any female ) this would be pretty much the perfect gift, not only to share but to indulge with.
