Gucci started it a long time ago.
Actually, I guess the boys were the real beginners.
I am talking about the loafer and I would go as far as to say it will be one of the shoes of our season; like the sneaker has become the go-to with everything, so will the loafer. Probably many of us have been wearing them forever because we know just how comfy and fab they really are. Sneakers have their moments as do our clunky style boots but nothing changes the feel-good factor of a loafer.
The loafer looks pretty cute with just about everything.
I like them with opaque tights or fancy socks peeking out from a pair of trousers. One of my favourite looks is a pair of man-style pants, an oversized sweater or sweatshirt and a pair of slim loafers. Perfect for life right now. I have resuscitated mine – cleaned, polished and re-heeled where necessary – they were hiding way in the back behind the boots and the trainers. Now they are front of mind and will be doing a turn about.
Do you know that “rule” about alternating shoes and not wearing them two days in a row? I don’t know if it’s a go or not but I have often heard it applied to the maintenance of loafers. I tend to do the opposite; get a crush on a style and wear it day in and day out. I’ll try this logic as I’m all for maintaining the investment pieces.
A classic is always a classic- always an option – but sometimes I need a gentle nudge to get back in that game. xv
