Wearing winter white – Why?
I love a bit of alliteration, almost as much as I like wearing all white in winter.
The days of white jeans (and white sneakers) being reserved for certain dates is long gone as fashion means we can wear what we want when we want. This London fashion week saw many wearing white and off white from top to toe. If styled well, it’s another wonderful alternative to all black and even the don’t-know-what-to-wear days.
My white jeans need a decent sized sweater or cardigan to cover my multitude. To contrast with the white of the jeans and the sneakers, I choose a sweater with either texture or depth and a jacket in the shade spectrum. The creams, oatmeal and even soft biscuit shades are magic when they are worn together. My goal would be to wear an all-white suit this spring; I’m working on it.
It has only been the last few years I have felt comfortable wearing white jeans. I believed they were the sole domains of skinny Minnies but I have changed my thoughts now I know how to wear them. Tight? Yes and slightly shorter and with a little bit of kick in the leg. The sweater I wear usually sits just below the bottom – not too long to shorten the legs but enough to cover any extra folds. It’s a delicate balance but once you get it right, it is a keeper for sure. The same formula works with a blouse.
*Try a leopard print blouse with white jeans for another winner.
The coats? I like an on the knee version with this look or a wider jacket that finishes high on the thigh.
When in doubt, wear it white. xv
