This is the easiest part of the vacation puzzle.
The caftan is my most favourite dress of all.
It means comfort, colour and vacation to me.
I have collected them for years on my travels and at home. I try and find them in interesting markets, second-hand shops and online. Years ago, fashion didn’t care about the caftan but now caftans are plentiful on all the best sites. They have become investments. Caftans can be as much as the down payment on a house if they are hand and embroidered in silk or sometimes they can be the best bargain you will find.
Why do I love them? Let me count the ways.
For all the reasons I feel when I see this image above; a sense of freedom, an explosion of colour and comfort. Caftans are sublimely wearable and hide a multitude of what we don’t wish to think about. They can be dressed-up or down and take us from poolside to party.
We have looked everywhere to find the pink one above but the closest we have is this pretty gingham one. Not at all the same but divinely pretty in any case. Of course there is this beauty too. Take a deep breath when you click.
Where once I wore the caftan only beachside now the caftan can take me many places; recently a black-tie dinner and also a wedding.
Versatility would be the word to describe the caftan and if there is something worth having on vacation, it is versatility.
More is more when it comes to the caftan. xv
