The Beauty Detective: Have You Had Your Vitamin C?

Have-You-Had-Your-Vitamin C?-vicki-archer

Vitamin C isn’t just for the body

We are all more than aware of the wonders Vitamin C works for our bodies. It’s a miracle for the immune system, keeps our teeth and bones healthy and also helps to heal the body from the inside out.

Much like our bodies need vitamins, so does our skin. Beauty experts swear by it and so, we’ve done some research.

What Are The Benefits?

It boosts collagen by increasing the quality and aids in the turnover of cells.

It helps to brighten and moisturise the skin as it is easily absorbable and retains moisture.

It reduces brown spots and colour pigmentation including redness by helping the skin to heal itself and even out the tone.

The appearance of fine lines is minimised as protein fibre damage lessens, which also helps out with any uneven texture.

It heals sun damage that SPF cannot protect our skin from, as well as any scarring.

Take Note

There are some different types of Vitamin C.

The most popular type in skincare is Absorbic Acid. Like the name suggests it absorbs the quickest and has the highest potency.

Another type is Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate or MAP for short. It’s a water-soluble derivative of Vitamin C and is most effective in lower concentrations.

Ester C is the third type. It’s a trademark form which has been boosted with calcium ascorbate which despite many claims doesn’t have a lot of data to back it up.

Another thing to be aware of is some skincare products cannot be used in conjunction with Vitamin C. For example, the popular skincare ingredient niacinamide, so use one or the other. Or try using vitamin C in the morning and the other at night.

The Products

Whilst there are a number of Vitamin C products on the market, we’ve been researching to narrow down what we believe are the best of the bunch and give results almost instantly.

Omorovicza’s Daily Vitamin C is an incredibly popular product from the Hungarian brand which fuses natural ingredients with science to give radiant and hydrated skin even after one use.

The Vitamin C Serum from Mario Badescu is also especially great for dehydrated skin as it absorbs quickly and retains our natural moisture.

Dr Dennis Gross Skincare’s C+ Collagen Set & Refresh Mist is an extremely handy product that can be used after makeup as well as on the go. It’s a multitasking mist that refreshes but also provides a pollution shield against environmental aggressors.

The Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line Reducing Concentrate is a lot more creamy than liquid which helps the skin to absorb it a little better. The results are noticeable after just one use.

And finally is the C-12 Pure Bright Serum from Dermalogica. This product is amazingly good for combatting hyperpigmentation such as any brown spots, discolouration and uneven skin tone. It’s also very lightweight and absorbs straight away.

Vitamin C is one of the most effective and powerful ingredients in the beauty industry.

Beauty experts highly recommend adding a product containing it to our skincare routines – not only to hydrate and improve the look of fine lines but also to make our skin more healthy.

Vitamins are no longer just for our bodies but will work miracles on our faces too.
